The Australian Ukulele Festival is a start up project. The business name and domain is registered to Kevin Chennell. Kevin is a musician and an event manager from Kalamunda in Western Australia. Kevin is also a jazz guitar student at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He leads Kalamunda Ukulele Collective and bands in the Perth Hills.
His recent activities in event management include; serving on the committtee that oversaw the implementation of The Zig Zag Festival in Kalamunda in September 2018, with an attendance of 15,000; the co-ordination of the Russell Copelin (Ukulele Russ), Samantha Muir and Anu Grace tours of Kalamunda; and organising and co-leading the Ukulele Kanikapila at the inaugural Strings Attached Guitar Festival in Margaret River in 2019.
The Australian Ukulele Festival aims to collaborate with the community and the music industry to celebrate and promote the ukulele, provide a program of events for ukulele players and support and encourage ukulele artists to tour Western Australia and Australia. Busselton Ukulele Strummers, led by Barbara Taylor is a key collaborator.
